William Hinson drives 390 Yards at PGA Merchandise Show Demo Day

The 60th edition of the PGA Merchandise Show took place January 24-26, 2013 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL. The Show was prefaced by the Outdoor Demo Day, which was held Wednesday, January 23 at Orange County National Golf Center & Lodge in Winter Garden. Ernest Sports was among more than 100 vendors presenting and demonstrating golf products on the 42-acre practice facility.

Long drive champ and high school junior, William Hinson, took advantage of the beautiful weather and came out to demo the ES12 Portable Launch Monitor. As the winner of the 2012 Chance Professional Long Drive Championship at Marietta Country Club in Georgia, the Ernest Sports team expected to see big things from Hinson when he visited the tent; he did not disappoint! The ES12 Portable Launch Monitor clocked Hinson’s drive at 390 yards.

Art of The Olympians Premiere Golf Classic

Ernest Sports had the wonderful opportunity to attend and exhibit the ES12 at the Art of the Olympians College of Life Premiere Golf Classic held at the prestigious Colony Golf & Country Club in Bonita Springs, FL on December 2-4, 2012. Designed to enrich the lives of youth by sustaining the Art of the Olympians art, sports and culture programs, this exclusive tournament event featured only 29 foursomes in addition to an assortment of Olympic and golf pros.

Over sixty renowned athletes participated in the event from a broad range of sports, including the PGA, NFL, NBA, MLB, and, of course, the Olympics. Throughout the event, the Ernest Sports team was inspired to watch athlete greats such as Julius Erving and Jerome Bettis experience and praise the ES12 Portable Launch Monitor. The positive feedback from these athletes and celebrities was highly regarded, particularly now that golf will become an official Olympic sport at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. More than 250 companies were represented at the three-day PGA Merchandise Show, where nearly 40,000 golf industry professionals attended to check out products from all over the world. The event focused on every aspect of golf, and industry leaders showed up to see current vendors, discover new products, purchase products and network. Ernest Sports was honored and excited to have our exhibit visited by prestigious golf instructors such as Michael Breed and Butch Harmon. Harmon is known for having been Tiger Woods’ golf coach from 1993 to 2004, and has also worked with other major champions such as Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, and Stewart Cink, just to name a few.

Michael Breed has been affiliated with The Golf Channel since 1999. He has appeared numerous times on Golf Academy Live as both a guest Instructor and as a host. He has appeared on golf talk live, viewers forum and Golf Central. Breed is the inventor of the Putting and Chipping Brace for golfers. 2012 LPGA Regional Conference

Ernest Sports attended the LPGA Regional Conference in Las Vegas last week. The conference brought together over 150 women professional attendees. We were able to show the ES12 portable launch monitor to everyone and the response was overwhelmingly positive. The conference hosted well known golfers including Mary Ritchie who has been a LPGA member since 2002 and has over 17 years of teaching and coaching experience. Mary spoke about Golf and Mobile Technology and reviewed new golf gadgets including the ES12. Mary said she loves using the ES12 and it is “sure to help you get results faster on your journey to golf improvement.” The conference was a big success and Ernest Sports is proud to be involved in the LPGA. The ES12 is a great teaching tool for all ages, backgrounds and golf levels.

Ernest Sports at the Titleist Performance Institute 2012 World Golf Fitness Summit

Ernest Sports will showcase the ES12 with its free smartphone app in our demonstration booth at the 2012 World Golf Fitness Summit hosted by Titleist Performance Institute, October 11-13 2012. The ES12 hitting bay will be available for attendees to try out our innovative new product to see why the PGA named it Best New Product of the Year.

The World Golf Fitness Summit is a biennial event and this year is the 4th summit to bring together over 800 golf, health and fitness professionals from over 18 countries. The 2012 summit is projected to be even larger, featuring presenters who work with beginners, the world’s elite and every golfer in-between. The diverse group of speakers will educate the audience on trends, technologies and techniques that are shaping golf’s future. The summit runs from Thursday to Saturday and is divided into morning and afternoon sessions providing a variety of topics for attendees.

Sugarloaf Golf Club Tournament to Benefit Friends of Gwinnett County Senior Services

Ernest Sports gives back to Friends of Gwinnett County Senior Services, a volunteer-run non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds to privately support or supplement select senior programs in Gwinnett County, Georgia. The tournament was held at the TPC Sugarloaf Golf Club on September 10, 2012. Ernest Sports was an event sponsor and had a tent set up for participants to check out the ES12 and the revolutionary smartphone app that tracks speed and distance and many other amazing features.

Founded in 1999, Friends is an avid supporter of Gwinnett County’s Meals on Wheels program for seniors. Private donations have allowed Friends to sponsor a number of homebound, elderly clients for yearly meals service. Additional private contributions have allowed Friends to donate fully-equipped vehicles and other equipment to the Gwinnett County program.

Friends mission is to privately support or supplement select Gwinnett County Senior Services programs that directly address senior needs including:

Cost of meals for seniors
Home repair and emergency assistance
Home safety
Health and well being screenings
Kinship

The tournament brought together over 100 participants, volunteers and donors to raise funds to supplement core direct service programing for the Friends organization. There was also a closest to the pin contest after the tournament where we showcased the ES12 and Ernest Sports donated an ES12 for the Live Auction after the golf tournament.

The tournament has become a huge success and a rewarding annual experience for everyone. Ernest Sports is proud to support this nonprofit organization, raising funds for seniors to remain independent in their own homes.

Ernest Sports with Mizuno USA for ES12 Product Testing at the Country Club of the South Learning Center using the Iron Byron

Ernest Sports spent the morning testing the ES12 for accuracy. We worked with Mizunos’ Principle Club Engineer, Chris Voshall and Country Club of the South’s Teaching Professional, Shawn Koch to put the ES12 to an extensive testing session. Product testing involved comparison range data from a launch monitor, Bushnell Laser, the Mizuno’s Iron Byron and the ES12.

We had extremely benign wind conditions making it a great day for testing! We hit various shots with a Pitching Wedge and a 6 iron and the results were impressive to say the least. The data chart shows the ES12 in action using different golf balls, face angles, and even launch angles. We want to expose all the data to show everyone that the ES12 reacts to face angle and various launch angles as well as prove our accuracy. It was great to spend time with Chris from Mizuno and Shawn from the Country Club of the South. They were extremely accommodating and helpful during our testing and setting up the Iron Byron.

Do You Know Your Distance?

Knowing your distances is the secret to playing well. I was watching the Barclay’s this past weekend and the tournament came down to the back nine on Sunday. Nick Watney went into the 72nd hole with a 2 stroke lead. After hitting a 3 wood off the tee he left himself with a 152 yard uphill shot to a front pin, all carry. With all conditions considered, Watney would have normally hit an 8 iron, but in this situation Watney was pumped with adrenaline and decided to club down and hit the 9 iron. He flew his 9 iron just far enough to carry the front edge which led to a birdie and the win! This is a great example of a good player who knows how far he hits each iron. Who knows the outcome of the event if Watney did not know exactly how far to hit that shot, the ball would of ended up in the bunker or lay in a tough lie. Do you truthfully know your distances? If not I think it might be time to dial in your distance.
